On July 17, 1794, at the height of The Terror during the French Revolution, 16 Carmelite nuns sang hymns in unison as they were guillotined for their faith. This is their story. Included is my retelling of the story along with a full English translation of the account of one of the surviving nuns, as well as letters from the Prioress and other members of the community.
